Crenshaw’s have an overall smooth round shape with a slightly pointed stem end. This variety has a tender salmon colored flesh and smooth sweet flavor.
To find a ripe Crenshaw look for a golden colored rind.
Since melons grow on the ground, it’s only logical to make sure they’re perfectly clean on the outside before cutting them. Run cool water over the melon before eating to remove any surface dirt that may remain.
Turlock Fruit melons are picked vine-ripened so they should immediately be stored in a refrigerator. Cover cut melons with plastic and store no more than 3 days.
